On March 16, 2019, I will be talking about almonds with Martha Stewart on her television show, Martha Bakes! For the eleventh season of her PBS program, Martha Stewart has chosen her favorite baking ingredients. Each episode features a single ingredient such as almonds, lemons or dried fruit. Martha invited experts to stop by her kitchen to chat about each one. Martha Bakes Almonds Episode with Martha Stewart focuses on all the types of almonds and forms available to home bakers and cooks. And three of her recipes using them.
My work with the California almond industry led to my appearance on the show. It really was a thrill to be asked to talk about my favorite food. And to be spending time with Martha Stewart on set. I’m mad for almonds, their health benefits and the delectable things you can make with them.
I developed my expertise in almonds first as a professional chef and baker at Restaurant du Village, then while working as President of American Almond Products Company in Brooklyn, New York. Most recently my work has taken me to Shanghai, China. Last summer it was for China Bakery, one of the largest international bakery trade shows in the world. Other years I’ve visited commercial bakeries there to inspire them on how to use California almonds in their recipes.
On the day of the taping, I packed my bags with almonds in all forms for Martha to sample. (She told me that she even has a few almond trees on her property in Connecticut.) It was great fun because Martha was such an enthusiastic taster. I made three unusual almond cookies for her to sample.
The March broadcast date is ideal too. Its peak almond bloom season and the time when the trees start to form their green buds.
My conversation with Martha Stewart has inspired me to share more almond stories, recipes and tips for both sweet and savory foods in the coming weeks and months.
In Connecticut, the program will air on CPTV on March 16, 2019 at 3:30 PM.
